The IPL 2019 auction was held in Jaipur on 18th December where 346 cricketers, including 226 Indian players, will be up for grabs for the remaining 70 slots. In the last 11 years, we have seen cricketers getting four to five times more than their base price at the auctions. 'Sixer King' Yuvraj Singh still holds the record of being the most expensive player in the IPL history. He was bought by Delhi Daredevils, now Delhi Capitals, at a price of Rs 16 Crore in IPL 2015 auction. Here are the top 10 costliest players in the history of IPL.

1) Yuvraj Singh - bought for Rs 16 Crore by Delhi Daredevils in 2015



The stylish left-hand batsman remains to be the costliest player in the history of IPL Auction. Yuvraj was sold to Delhi Daredevils at a whopping sum of Rs 16 Crore at the auction of IPL 2015. Prior to that, In 2014 auction, he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at an enormous amount of Rs 14 Crore. He, till date, holds the record of scoring the quickest half-century in T20Is against England (12 balls). With plenty of experience in the shortest format, the veteran Indian cricketer is extremely popular among fans as well as the franchises. In IPL 2018, he was bought by Kings XI Punjab - for whom he scored just 65 runs in only 8 matches and was fortunate to bag a bid by Mumbai Indians this time for his base price of Rs 1 crore.

2) Ben Stokes - bought for Rs 14.5 Crore by Pune Supergiants in 2017



The English all-rounder, Ben Stokes, was the most expensive player sold at IPL 2017 auction. He was sold to Pune at a huge amount of Rs 14.5 Crore. From the last two seasons of IPL tournament, Stokes has been on the radar of most of the franchises. His all-around skills give him an extra edge of other players. Stokes is the most expensive foreign player in the history of IPL.

Ben Stokes also went to play for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018 at a cost of Rs 12.5 Crore. He hammered 196 runs and claimed 8 wickets and was retained by the team for IPL 2019.

5) Dinesh Karthik- bought for Rs 12.5 Crore by Delhi Daredevils in 2014



Dinesh Karthik was bought by Delhi Daredevils at a whopping amount of Rs 12.5 Crore. The right-handed cricketer has been in several IPL franchises. Currently, he is the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders. The Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper batsman has led Kolkata impressively in the previous season.


6) Jaydev Unadkat- bought for Rs 11.5 Crore by Rajasthan Royals in 2018



The left-arm pacer from Saurashtra was the most expensive Indian player at IPL 2018 auction. He was bought for Rs 11.5 Crore by Rajasthan Royals after his exceptional performance in the previous edition for RPS. Unadkat was recently released by the same franchise after a poor run in IPL 2018. In IPL 2019 auction, he was roped by the Royals again for a cost of Rs 8.40 crores.

7) Gautam Gambhir - bought for Rs 11.4 Crore by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011



The left-handed opener from Delhi moved to Kolkata Knight Riders for a jaw-dropping price of Rs 11.4 Crore. In 2011, Gambhir was also named as the captain of Knight Riders. His captaincy was the main reason behind Kolkata's triumph in IPL 2012 and 2014. The southpaw was in red-hot form just before the start of IPL 2011, as he had played some great knocks in the 2011 ICC World Cup, that India won. He scored 97 in the final against Sri Lanka and helped his side lift the world cup after 28 years. Gambhir was named Delhi Daredevils' captain in 2018 - where he reliquished the position after a series of poor performances.

8)  KL Rahul - bought for Rs 11 Crore by Kings XI Punjab in 2018



The right-handed wicket-keeper batsman was bought for a whopping sum of Rs 11 Crore by Kings XI Punjab at IPL 2018 auction. The stylish batsman did not let the franchise down, as he scored 649 runs in the tournament, opening the batting for KXIP. Moreover, after he impressed everyone with his bat, he was retained by the same franchise to play for the upcoming season.

9) Dinesh Karthik- bought for Rs 10.5 Crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2015



Dinesh Karthik was sold for a massive amount of Rs10.5 crores to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2015 IPL auctions making him one of the highest paid players in the tournament.

10) Ravindra Jadeja- bought for Rs 9.72 Crore by Chennai Super Kings in 2012



Ravindra Jadeja, the left-handed all-rounder, was bought for Rs 9.72 Crore by Chennai Super Kings, which made him the costliest player in IPL 2012 auction. The Saurashtra cricketer was already a household name by then and enjoyed the confidence of skipper MS Dhoni. Jadeja honed his skills under Dhoni's captaincy and went on to become one of the most formidable all-rounders in the tournament's history.
